Most of us will laugh and wonder why some dogs have weird habits. Many dogs are marked as stars or heroes among the community due to their funny stunts. They did certain outclass activities that make them popular. By these activities and stunts, they convince people that dogs are more than just four-legged man’s best friend. They also perform numerous fun and things that may puzzle us some times. These behaviors may be intrinsic based or sometimes they learn from their fellow dogs. Some of the following given behaviors are seemed to be funny but there is scientific reason behind that.
- It is commonly observed that dogs kicked when getting scratched. It is usual behavior when they are scratched on the belly. Most of us thought that this is because of the dog’s ticklish spot. But the main reason is that beneath the dog’s belly are nerves from the spinal cord, which are quite sensitive. When they get stimulated, it will make a dog feel like he’s got a flea and causes the back legs to kick involuntarily and try to scratch somewhere. Scientifically it is known as “scratch flex”. This happens in a reflex manner, meaning that the dog cannot control its back legs from kicking while getting scratched or tickled.
- Kicking grass after its daily morning routine and this is one of the most common weird behaviors of dogs. Most of us think that dog is trying to hide its scent from its enemies. They feel ashamed or somewhat like that. But scientifically it mean totally different. This is just because of the reason that underneath the dog’s paws is glands that secrete pheromones, which initiate their behavior to scratch the ground.
- One other wired behavior that is commonly observed in the dogs is sleep barking and twitching. Sometimes, the dog may even kicks around, as if having an intense dream. It seems to be very humorous to the owners. In fact, they really do dream like us. But in addition to the sleeping phases of humans, dogs have an additional phase called short wave sleep in which this behavior occurs. Keep in mind that they do such acts while sleeping and dreaming.
- Most of the times it is seen that dogs turn around several times before sitting or lying down. It gives a feeling that they are looking for something but actually this is their instinct behavior before sitting or lying down. It will make them more comfortable by flatten tall grass. This is even very common behavior in the wild dogs. This is basically the nature of the dog to turn around many times.
- Dogs are used to lick a lot and same is done by their owners too. While many people think it is their way of kissing, there is actually a deeper explanation to that. But according to research, it is proved that licking give the impact of strength. Such that one, who gets licked is usually the stronger of the pack. And this normally observed when pups are born, their mother licks them to clean off the dirty stuff and groom them.
